Should Tree-Huggers in the USA take their "ministry" to China and India?

It appears that China is about to surpass the USA as the world's top generator of pollution, with India not far behind. Even the San Fran Chronicle acknowledges it...Is it time for our US "Green" Extremists take a missions trip?

Please note: I am all for doing things to benefit the environment, however I think it is time that other nations start pitching in and stop blaming the USA. This is a global issue, afterall...that's my point.

Should Tree-Huggers in the USA take their "ministry" to China and India?
by encouraging tree huggers to go on mission, you may eventually inspire them to create a worldwide organization with enforcement power over other nations. they will erode US sovereignty if given the chance. be careful what you wish of tree huggers!
Reply:Hello!

I am from India and I am a bit surprised by your note.

For one-we do not need American Greens to tell us how to save the environment.

If u have time, google the internet-u will find there are daily issues raised by the media, the people of india and there are many many Non Goverment agencies in India doing a lot of good work to preserve the environment in India.

However India is land of extremes-theres lots of infrastructure problems, poverty etc.-which means that the Indian goverment and its people need to strike a balance between growth %26amp; industrialization and the protection of environment.

In India we contribute to preserving the environment everyday-we use Jute bags for shopping(unlike the glossy Plastic paper bags that are handed over by Macdonalds and KFC),we dont use Toilet Tissue paper like U people-for which lots of trees are cut down.

We wash ourselves with Water-which is more Hygeinic. Imagine if a 1 Billion people start to use Toilet tiisue paper. The worlds forests wont be enough.

U should check ur backyard first.

USA has been the worst polluter since the last 50 years due to its Industrilization over the last 50 years

India and China have only recently started Industrialization-as late as year1990 only

The amount of Industrial waste that USA generated over the last 50 years,is incomparable and inexcusable-it has contributed to the destruction of ecology at many places in the world- not to mention the idiosynchrosies that it got into in Afghanistan,Iraq etc.

The problem with Americans is that they preach more and practice less!

Get ur house in order first-if u r so concerned about environment-then stop using toilet tissue paper first! it may save some trees!!
Reply:if you ask here, America is the ONLY bad guy out there.

the U.S.A. has done more for pollution controls than ANYONE or ANYWHERE else in the world. we don't just talk a good game.
Reply:Why then do you use the term tree-huggers instead of environmentalists? To answer your question, no matter what political stance any country takes, business is still in the business of making money and most will fight any regulation that involves cleaning up their act when it comes to polluting, it gets in the way of profits. They will pay a CEO hundreds of millions of dollars in a single year and scream about paying to clean their own mess.
Reply:Stop whining...as far as I am aware, the USA hasn't even officially accepted that it is one of the planets major contributers to global warming...probably best to get your own house in order first?
Reply:I am well aware of the pollution generated by China and India, but there are two things that I think set them apart from the US. First, the US economy is capable of producing cleaner running equipment. We just need to start putting the technology to better use. At this point, to hold China and India to the same standard would be destructive to their economies. Second, you can say this is giving them an unfair advantage, but if you look at the collective problem...we entered the greenhouse emissions arena long before either of them. It makes sense that our exit should be first. Someone has to make the first move. Plus, it's not like we are only a minor part of the problem--even if China does surpass us by the end of 2007.
Reply:What a great question! The answer is YES, YES, YES! They are doing WAY too much complaining in the US (probably because our laws let them be heard and other countries don't allow this). They need to take up the cause elsewhere!
Reply:I agree but after leading the world in pollution how much notice do you think these people would take of you? also I don't think they really care compared to their prosperity.
Reply:I hope they can Help China..........................
Reply:This question has already been asked this morning. However, there are conservationistst there and Al Gore has already been to China to discuss this very thing with their students and their government. What have you done?
Reply:Yes, of course.
Reply:You make a good point,.....they're hypocrites!
