I need help picking an accent color for a diningroom.?

I'm going to paint 3 walls bright white, but need a color for the wall the custom made valance is on. It is an older house built in 1925, rounded plastered doorways, oak wood floor stained a golden color. Walnut china cabinet and tableset. The curtain has gold, green and burgundy in it. It is right off the livingroom and that room has forest green carpeting, also painted white. Any suggestions?

I have to agree with the others that say a deep beautiful red.


It's a spectacuar color!! Don't be afraid of the color "red",, you juuuussst might like it. I think you would get some comps on it also. It also puts a little contemperary look into your older home. I love red myself. My drapes are red, candles,, asian pieces are red. I love it,, you just might too.


Try to accent with some silver, lightly,,, like a bar set,,, or a lamp,, just to break up all the wood. Good luck!!!

Reply:I would go with burgandy or deep red to accent your valance. It will contrast the light floor and I find that deep reds seem very inviting and warm in dining rooms.
Reply:You want to tie the house together with color accents. Starting with the year the house was built gives a great visiual. You are working with oak and walnut wood, accents of gold, green and forest green, and burgundy.





Visualize the valance, if the colors are dispersed evenly then you have your choice of any of the three colors. I would like to see a deep contrast on the walls to take away from the white and tie in the liviningroom and dining room together. Now in the livingroom where the forest green carpet is you didn't mention the color of sofa, I would like to suggest that you bring in the gold and accent green (not forest green) into the sofa with pillows and possibly a throw.





For additional accents think of a gold lamp, if you have lamps and they are paintable surface you can go to your local hardware and purchase paint, you can also add a really nice touch by going to your craft store and picking up gold accents. Add to your china cabinet accents to bring out the colors, on your diining room table add a runner across the table with a vase of silk flowers.





Remember, paint is easy to change, you can even faux paint by going to Home Depot and attending one of the classes they offer. It can be a really nice touch at a low cost.

Reply:If you'd like to keep the color scheme going from livingroom to dining room...I'd say go with the forest green color. Maybe a tad lighter thought. If you'd like to warm up the dining room to make it feel a bit more cozy, go with the burgundy...again, maybe a tad lighter that the burgandy in the curtains. Then, find some way to bring some of the burgandy color into the living room so it will all tie together. :-)
Reply:Easy! Paint your accent wall Forest Green! If you like you could add gold accents or designs to it as well. I would suggest a shade just slightly darker than your living room carpet. -- Two Chicks and a Ladder, specialty painting.

Reply:Do a two-toned striped deal. Whichever color you choose use a slightly lighter shade of it on the alternating stripes. Takes a lil time %26amp; effort but looks classy.
Reply:I suggest a lighter shade of the forest green. Something with a little more olive that goes with the curtains. It won't overpower the room.
