7.62 X 39MM RUSSIAN RED

Isn't that Tracer ammunition?

Reply:Sounds like ammuniton for a rifle grenade launcher. The M203 grenade cartidge looks just like a "bullet" and the caliber is 40MM. So I would say you having something similar.
Reply:Your question doesn't add up. A 39 mm shell is extremely large and is usually not shoulder fired weapon ammunition, with the exception of underbarrel granade launchers (which are usually 40mm.) AK-47 ammo (7.62 Soviet) is 39mm long overall. You make it sound as though the diameter of the projectile is 39mm meaning the "bullet" is as big across as 2 1/2 fingers are wide. This would most likely mean that this ammunition is explosive, and the fact that they are styrofoam encased and state "use only suitable 'launcher' " reinforces this notion. (Although the PRC's Chinese to English translation has never been known for great accuracy)

However you say they are "large copper bullets"

In which case are they 5.45 Soviet %26lt;M74%26gt; (AK-74) or 7.62 Soviet %26lt;M67%26gt; (AK-47)? Assualt rifle rounds are not what I would call a "large" bullet, more like an intermediate round, but like you said you know little about guns.

Merely because they are assualt rifle rounds does NOT rule out the possibility that they are incendiary or explosive, although they would have colored bands or tips.

No matter what these rounds are their effect on the human body will be to wound or kill, although a round fired out of barrel (not confined) does not transfer much energy because its energy is not directed and concentrated in a specific direction by a chamber and barrel. If these are explosive rounds however this is a moot point.

I do not believe that these are artillery or mortar rounds as these would not resemble a "large bullet" but a grenade round may be a possibility. However I have never heard of (or found in a search) any listing of a 39mm diameter round, Chinese, Soviet or any other country for that matter. It would have a round metallic (if not painted) head and a casing.

The only thing for sure about this ammunition is that it is not safe in your possession as you cannot identify or describe it. As much as I hate to say it, I would suggest turning it over to the authorities, or at least someone with more firearms knowledge.
Reply:you sound sick....why would you want a gun so big anyhow?...

another school shooter in the making?...

get rid of stuff like that and concentrate on making youself a better person...instead of ridiculous weapons..
Reply:i guess i can see your first part of the question, but the second part? does this really have to be answer?

maybe if you think really hard, considering the speed the bullet travels and the mass that develops in his path, i guess the question is answerd without a response. thank you

and probably just the a drop of the ammo onto your foot probably hurts like a MOFO
Reply:Let's get the measurements straight first...

The M-16 fires 5.56mm bullets

the AK-47 fires 7.62mm bullets

The Chain gun fires 12.7mm cannon shells

The gun fitted in a F-16 fires 20mm cannon shells

The gun fitted in a MiG 29/Su30 fires 30mm cannon shells

I have heard of 37 mm guns fitted on small vessels of the Navy and Coastguard

Therefore a 39mm round has to be fired out of an field mortar or an Anti Tank weapon or even a light field gun/howitzer.

Any of these weapons firing a shell on a you will disintegrate your body into so many pieces that they will have to find you with a broom and pail to fill the body bag. And, of course, the explosive content of the shell will play wonders with any solid object...

Is the round without a casing (Shell attached to it? then it is definitely a mortar or a anti tank round. Both have stabilizing fins at the rear end and additionally the mortar shell has 3-4 circular leak-prevention washers ahead of the fins to help propel the momma out of the mortar barrel.

Please do not store them in your house and keep them separate form any accompanying fuzes. Report the entire lot to your local police.
Reply:what you are in posession are high explosive rocket granades contact the At%26amp;F and turn them over or call the local police they may detonate in your home don't be fooling witht his stuff they are volatile and posessing them will get you 10 in federal prison ,,,,, 7.62 x 39 do not come in styrefoan boxes or market (suitable launchers) get real TEXAN
