Who cares?

Who really cares about climate change? When people jabber on about global warming, im like "i dont care".

Yes, this is a selfish attitude so you dont need to tell me.

I refuse to be "Green" when places like China are still using coal!

And besides, all this stuff about the ice caps melting is just the world evolving out of an ice age, we contribute only a small amount to the damage......does anyone agree?

Who cares?
i actually saw a pretty convincing documentary explaining that the ice caps are melting because we are coming out of the end of the last ice age and that global warming is just something to scare people into being more conscious of our pollution so we don't create a problem
Reply:im in between the 18-34 bracket but well above 18. .......if you were wondering Report It

2) Wouldn't you rather be 'green' then dead? Or having our future generations suffer greatly from some huge mistakes we've made?
Reply:1) I care. So do a lot of people.

2) It has to start somewhere. China is still a developing country. The USA is developed and benefitted from the pollution we emitted while we developed. We should be setting the example, not expecting China to set it for us. If we reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, China will follow suit.

3) "All this stuff" is a lot more than just ice caps melting. Just coming out of the last ice age doesn't explain the sudden acceleration of global warming since the Industrial Revolution.

4) No, I don't agree. Unfortunately many do.
Reply:i dont care either but if it gets where i can feel it i think we all should do something about it. i feel comfortable at 70 degreas and if this goes up then droughts happen and in the future everything adds up and we will just be a waistland. im not asking you to care just to think about what could happen if we dont do something now.
Reply:Starting about 1960 our contribution exceeded all natural forces. Here it all is, the sun, volcanoes, etc.

The reason to care is that it will be very damaging to our modern society, costing us huge sums of money and, in poor countries, human lives. Details:

Reply:I don't really care either.
Reply:because we dont want to die a slow and painful death because the weather is getting hotter and our pathetic bodies cannot handle it.
Reply:This planet existed long before technology and will continue to exist long after our species becomes extinct. The more carbon dioxide that goes into the atmosphere, the more the atmosphere will warm up. That reduces glaciers and ice caps, putting more water into the ecosystem. This makes more rain available. With more carbon dioxide and more water, the more plants will thrive, and the more oxygen is produced, cooling the environment.

The environment is neither as fragile nor as static as the environmentals would have you believe. True, we can destroye entire biomes, but life by and large goes on.

Until someone proves to me that Venus is as hot and inhospitable as it is because its extinct inhabitants couldn't control their greenhouse gases, I don't see any need to panic and start taking drastic measures that could be either ineffective or harmful to the environment or the species.
Reply:you dont want answers you want confirmation of what you think

well you wont get it from me

if you want answers cruise the thousands of answers about this very same thing already given

But you will cry soon enough when the price of beer hits the roof because of water shortage or food is hard to get

not even talking about the heat

In Northern China the country is drying up ,and the place has

thousands of refugese are running for their lives from all consuming duststorms

America is the biggest polutor on this planet

few people will agree with you because more and more people are becoming aware and educated ,you should try that .

the Natural cycles are true ,but Mans contribution at speeding up Global warming has become indisputable

You must have been brainwashed by the corporations who cannot admit to the guilt because this would mean expensive changes of operations

besides it was not mentioned in the bible

but those who wrote the bible did not imagine industralization and Man behaving like pigs in Paradise

But dont count on heaven ,there is Global warming in space as well ,so Heaven will also get smitten

And God has decided to make hell here on Earth ,it was much easier than moving all those souls around that were going there anyway ,like bringing the mountain to the billions of Mohameds

so you better start looking after your planet ,because you have nowhere else to go
Reply:Being that you are younger, poorer, and not as good looking as me ;-) I don't care that you don't care. You are going to suffer through your actions for much longer than I will.

Once you pass through puberty, then through the 18-34 yr old group that lives their lives in a beer commercial, you WILL get to a stage in your life where you are going to feel really stupid and guilty for the statements you've made here today.

Scientists are more than 90% sure that your attitude and actions are the major contributing force. When you can prove to that degree of accuracy that you are right and they are wrong, I'll give you equal time.
Reply:Yes, some scientists think the global warming is just a cycle of the earth and it will happen again years from now. I agree with those scientists but I'm not necessarily saying "let's all pollute the place!" I care about the enviroment, I just don't beleive in global warming.
Reply:Hi,

I think that you have a good point and Global warming might be the ending of the last ice age.

I also agree about going green.

I am in the UK and we only represent 0.9% of the worlds population. If we all change and became totally green it would not make one bit of difference.

But on the other hand what if we are doing something destructive to the earths eccobalance.

Not just being 'un green' but something more disasterous that we have not found out about yet, or that may have been discovered but not released to the general public.

Every time a rocket beeches the atmosphere, the atomic bombs that have been exploded in the past and the big reactors that have been built.

Who truly knows what affect these things will have on the earth in years to come or what effect they have already had?
Reply:It doesn't always have to be a matter of "I care" and "I don't care", it's a matter of prioritizing the things you do care about. I suspect that is the way you actually are.

You should care more about the things over which you have more control. Climate is one of those things that no one has been able to demonstrate that we have any significant control over - despite the insisting of alarmists. So YES, you shouldn't feel so bad if you care less about global warming than the circle of your own influence.

But there is an environmental message that is lost in all the hyperbole, and that is something you CAN have an influence over and that you SHOULD care about: we live on a planet that does NOT have unlimited resources, we share that with everyone in existence and all those that will follow. We should live our lives with that understanding, prioritizing our needs and trying to decrease taking more than we need.

And you should not simply wait to do the right thing because other people are not living up to that same standard. You should ask yourself, "if not me, than who?" There are people that do more damage to the environment than you; there are people that do less damage than you. So far that seems to be working in that we haven't irreversibly ruined the Earth. But what eventually would happen if EVERYONE cared less about the environment than you? Things would get worse.

I think it's obvious that as you decide and prioritize the things in your life about which you care, there is a direction to which you aspire. I hope you consider it.
Reply:Well, at least it is good to be nice to the environment.
Reply:OK you want your plant to die? Go right ahead. but you know that you will be really really idoitic! Global Warming is bad for humans, animal(expesily polar bears), plants, water, the EARTH. EVERYTHING!!!!! u just dont get it! people are trying to stop global warming but all u do is make it harder. for example my uncle is working for NRDC. NRDC stands for NAtural Resources Defence Council. i would say about 75% of America believes in global warming and is trying to stop it! OK?

GOOD!!!

Hope THAT convinces you!

Reply:To stop Global Warming that is caused by co2 emissions would require that we stop the use of fossil fuels world wide, not just in the United States.

If we cannot do that we cannot stop Global Warming.

The People's republic of China has stated publicly they will not stop the use of fossil fuels.

Even if the United States and all of the other countries of the world stopped their use of fossil fuels, the use of fossil fuel by China alone is more that enough to cause Global Warming from the co2 emissions.

Switching to hybrids, recyling more, turning the lights out in some rooms and all of the other painless solutions to Global Warming are ineffective at reducing co2 emissions significantly enough to stop Global Warming or even slow it down a little bit for that matter.

These are just feel good public relations gimmicks so that people can feel good about themselves for stopping Global Warming without actually feeling the pain of the sacrifices that they would have to make in their own lives to have any impact at all on Global Warming.

We are forced to accept the fact that Global Warming is inevitable.

Arguing about who is to blame for Global Warming is a waste of time.

What we must do is start planning how we will ameliorate the negative impacts of Global Warming.

For example in low lying countries such as Bangladesh we need to start building dike systems, similar to those in Holland to hold back the sea.

Where dikes are not practical we need to start planning the relocation of those populations.

We need to start developing disaster relief for more powerful hurricanes.

We need to plan drought relief for countries that will be impacted with droughts.

Going green will have no significant impact on Global Warming. Rather than wasting time arguing about who is to blame for Global Warming we need to plan now how to ameliorate the negative effects of Global Warming.

We are all to blame for Global Warming, even my environmentalist friends, despeite their protestations to the contrary.

Reply:Mr. Al Gore cares. Watch "An Inconvenient Truth."
Reply:Caring is an empty gesture. Start asking questions to people like Gore such as: if we can control the climate please make it rain once or with all the modelling being done please tell me who's going to win the next two world series. There are fewer variables and a shorter time frame than the earth's climate. Global warming canbe good, longer growing seasons mean more food, how come Gore only focuses on the negatives?
