Why does my 10 gal fish tank keep turning green? The water?

I have had this tank up and running with two filters on the top for about 6 months or so. I have 3 neons, 3 zebras, a china alge eater and a plecostomus. I have been doing a 20-30% water change once a week and i cant get it to stay clear. I feed my fish once a day and only a little pinch (sometimes i don't think that enough food for them). I have add gravel from my other tank to it thinking that would help but it has not. Please help!!

Why does my 10 gal fish tank keep turning green? The water?
DO keep up with weekly water changes.

Anyway, it is probably your photoperiod (the amount of time the light is one) - reduce it to 8-9 hours per day. Is your tank near a window? Sunlight is great for algae, so move your tank or cover one side of it if it's directly facing a window.

Your problem is certainly being exacerbated by the fact that you have two oversized fish. Chinese algae eaters reach 6+ inches, and eventually they turn into mean buggers who don't eat algae; they turn into carnivores and chase your fish, instead.

Common plecos can grow to 18-24", and they are poop machines. Bushy-nosed plecos only grow to 4-5" but they are still a tight squeeze for a 10 gal.

Consider bringing your pleco and chinese algae eater into your petstore. You could get some more neons and zebras instead, or something else like a dwarf gourami or a male betta.
Reply:You probably have a chemical imbalance in the water. It took a year to figure out my fish tank chemical levels. Now it is PERFECTION due to the wonderful help of my local pet shop employee. So go to a place that sells fish and ask for their help. Goood luck.
Reply:make sure that there isnt any clorine in the water there is some stuff u can by that will get rid of it
Reply:Too much light sounds like the problem place the tank in a shady part of the room away from direct sun light, and only have the light on for 10 to 12 hours. it is tempting to turn the light on in the morning and off at bed time, if you think of a normal day you are probably exceeding natural day light time. your diy store will sell you an electric timer plug for a few pounds that you can set and forget, this will remove the temptation to "just put the light on".

Also check in your pet store as it may sell a water conditioner / filter boost that will help clump together any water particles making it easier for your filter to trap them.
Reply:dont leave lights on so much
Reply:i would say too much light, could be too much nitrite in the water also, how often do you change your filters??
Reply:Probably has too much algae, which can be caused by:

* Overfeeding (which doesn't sound like the problem)

* Infrequent filter changes

* Infrequent water changes (probably not the problem either)

* Excessive light
Reply:DO NOT do a water change that often, we do ours only once a month %26amp; have had no problems

( the tank can't build an enviroment when you change the water that often, it should clear up in 2 wks. , if not call the pet store )

good luck
Reply:Your PH isn't working right,or you have a chemical problem.
Reply:If your tank is in the sun light that will cause it to turn green. I had that problem when my tank was in the sun light so I moved it out of the sun light and now I have no problems.
Reply:Your water can go green for many reasons - commonly to much UV exposure can create a surge of green algae that is difficult to control (the algae eater couldn't cope and chemicals have minimum effect)- this could mean you need to change the timings on you lights or your tank maybe in direct sunlight for much of the day so a change of position would be required - Hope this helps.
Reply:If you are getting too much algae in your tank cut down on the lighting. Algae cannot grow without light.
Reply:kay. one: you need to clean the inside of the tank. just ues a rough sponge to rub algae off of the tank walls. don not use any cleanser just rubb it off.

two: keep teh lights only duringthe day! light will cause the algae growth to perk up.
Reply:Green water is a water born algae outbreak.

This is almost always a result of poor water quality from over feeding. It's possible that your tap water has high nitrates and phosphates which are also used as food sources for the algae.

I would get your tap water checked for those chemicals ASAP. If they are high then you'll need to look into another source of water for your changes.

If they aren't high then you need to figure out why the water has enough food source for the algae to bloom.

Other things that are contributors to this problem are direct sunlight, or having too much light on the tank for too long a period.
Reply:too much light, try turning the light off during the day and when you go to bed at night

also if near window cover the back of the tank or pull the curtains
Reply:lights on only daylight hours or 12 hours a day

what is the temperature of your water? perhaps too warm?

Why do some full Chinese have blue or green eyes (serious it exists)?

Strange enough, on my trip to China, I crossed by Beijing, in a large department store I saw many Northern Chinese people with grey and 2 with blue eyes. I asked them if they were mixed, they told me no and that it is not unheard of in the northern regions. I'm curious, why is this and has anyone else seen anything like this?

Why do some full Chinese have blue or green eyes (serious it exists)?
They have European genes. Europeans were the first settlers in certain parts of China.

What do you need to provide to get green card?

I am indonesian woman married 3 years to an american citizen who has been living outside USA for 6 years and now we are living in china with our baby

What do you need to provide to get green card?
How easy or difficult obtaining a green card can be depends greatly on a person's individual situation. Some individuals will apply for a greencard through family immigration. Employment immigration also gives people the opportunity to become a lawful permanent resident of the United States.

Methods of Obtaining a Green Card

A person can apply to become a permanent resident based on having a relative who is either a lawful permanent resident or a US citizen. The relative must first file the petition and it has to be approved. Once an immigrant visa number is available you can apply to have one assigned to you.

Employment can also allow a person to apply for a greencard. There is a multi-step process that is quite complex and can vary depending on the petitioner's qualifications, as well as which visa he or she applies for. The employer must complete a labor certification request for the applicant to be either granted or denied.

Obtaining a green card can also occur during the Diversity Program which is a green card lottery. This program began in 1994 and allows 50,000 new permanent residents enter the United States each year. The Diversity Program specifically allocates more visas, though randomly, to countries that have provided few immigrants to the US in recent years.

US-Immigration law is an extremely complex field where most people need the advise and services of an expert. Green Card Support Service has co-operated with a number of excellent Immigration Attorneys in the USA. We are glad to recommend and to provide you with the details of one of the best immigration lawyers in the USA.

Reply:Your husband needs to complete a "relative petition" with the US consulate/embassy in China. He'll need to provide appropriate documentation of his citizenship (passport, birth certificate, etc) and all other requested documentation for the petition. You'll just need to wait for the app. to be approved and be processed. Meanwhile, your husband can apply for a US passport and SS# for your child (your child is a US citizen automatically because of his/her father being a US citizen) Check with the consulate as to whether you are allowed to travel outside China while the application for you is being processed. Without a green card or permission to enter from INS, you'll be denied entry to the US despite the fact your husband is a US citizen as well as your child.
Reply:This is a great website to use.

Good luck!
Reply:you need to provide a green card for proof of citizenship but since you are married to a US citizen your married liaison will help you along with the green card.
Reply:i think you should decide where you wanna live first lol
Reply:You probably need a birth certificate and some other form of identification. Most any government document with your name and photo qualifies.

However, to enter the country as the spouse of a citizen, I'm not even sure you need a green card.

You should really check some government web sites (.gov) to find the exact details.
Reply:or try www.uscis.gov

It's the official website for the Department of Homeland Security's Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Reply:Oh my goodness - this is a sticky issue!

Your husband must go ASAP to the American Embassy where you are living, with all documentation showing his legal US citizenship, letter from US employer if that is the case, legal marriage documents and legal statement that he acknowledges paternity. This may be enough for you to give birth in the USA - guaranteeing US citizenship for your child.

It is important that you legally give birth in the USA if at all possible - especially since you, the mother, are not a US citizen abroad. What if something unforeseen happens to dad after the child is born, but before you are all living permanently in the US and all the paperwork (years, not months) is done? That would be a nightmare, trust me!

By giving birth in the USA legally, with dad there at the hospital to sign the paterity forms, there can be no contention as to the citizenship of your child at least. After the child is born, US Naturalization may require legal fatherhood documents (after birth - may need a paternity test - no kidding!). Then there is a wait time for greencard - not sure how long.

The Embassy or consulate office closest to you is the best place to go. Dont' wait - go as soon as possible. They will then advise you what to do. DO NOT hire a lawyer - not yet - there are many charlatans out there who will milk you dry and give you nothing that they promise.

If you do need a lawyer, your husband should contact the Bar or Legal association in the state where he last resided, or a lawyer that his company recomends if it is a US-owned company, and ask for a recommendation.

This may seem like a lot of work, but it isn't that uncommon a situation, particularly with global travel and intercontinental work - it happened often during the Vietnamese War - and the Embassy will give you the guidance you need.

Good Luck!

Barbaric!!! "Why" Does the whole world stand by while Japan & China slice the finn's of sharks & throw them

Back live! This is supposed to be a more humane world "Ha" if this was 12th century it would be but a few,and people knew no better, but with technology they can find these sharks easy. They take every fin, and throw the creature back alive. Its dead allready without its fins, it must take days to die. And the whole world does nothing. Why is it just a very few who seem to care like Green Peace who TRY and do something. Don't see there government stoping it, We have not evolved at all, man' s greed will never be satisfied barbaric customs still go on all over this planet and its allways animals at the end of it O im sorry its sport. Im sure ill get some answers from people with the brain of a pea, but hey you have more mates than I do. Thank god.

Barbaric!!! "Why" Does the whole world stand by while Japan %26amp; China slice the finn's of sharks %26amp; throw them
It is barbaric, I completely agree with you.

You don't just take what you need and leave the fish to bleed to death in the water, possibly even attracting other predators.

That's inhumane and cruel.

The Shark has survived millions of years just fine, until mankind decides to hunk it for His selfish purpose.

Don't consume shark's fins.

Talk to your officials.

Protest whenever you can.
Reply:You are right, that's a serious problem. Unfortunately, the world has many other problems that are far bigger and more serious right now.

But if it's important to you, start a blog and speak out!

Good luck!
Reply:China %26amp; Japan are extremely profitable trading partners of the major countries of this world so these countries would rather keep their mouths shut than threaten that trade..Sad but true. we could make our own feelings known by boycotting goods from Japan and that go's for Whale hunting too
Reply:can they put on fake one? like a prosthetic fin? if its just the fin they are after can they not grow them artificially like that mouse with an ear on its back? these could be solutions eh?
Reply:You are right. Animals that live in the sea get less attention and thus less protection than those which live on land. Sharks are in real trouble and governments should be doing more and not pander to the fishing industry. Did you see this article?

Reply:Why don't they use the meat from the rest of the animal ? They shouldn't waste any if they are killing it anyway. I haven't a problem eating it but I don't understand wasting it.
Reply:YES I AGREE. but did you know that America cause death in 20th century more than any other country they so called terrorist combine together.

And it is HUMAN. children, adult, man and woman.
Reply:It is a horrible practice from them, I am concerned that our Oceans demise is in permanent disarray. Our Oceans Whale populations are dying off as well.
Reply:It's a disgusting practice, but you can expect nothing better from the Chinese and Japanese. They are barbaric, primitive uneducated, scum. Look at Chinese ''medicine''and all the beautiful creatures that are murdered for that pseudo science, and their appalling treatment of political dissidents and freedom fighters. Look at the way the Japs treated their prionsers of war in WW2. The Chinks and Japs should both be nuked and wiped off the face of the earth.
Reply:$$$$$$$$4 us thats the motto of china and asian countries,

kook around your gaff see whats made in the uk or usa,

look at all the crap cars we have on the roads today, they offer poorer countries these crap cars dirt cheap to exploit the market with all the other rubbish that they have to offer.
Reply:Shark fin soup is Chinese food, not Japanese food. And they actually do eat the whole shark. Not just the fin.

What do u think of this issue,no green card no car?

This 22 year old woman was here since she was 7 years old she has no legal status, has 2 kids and recently was diagnosed with breast and cervical cancer.

She entered a raffle at a spanish radio station .

The price was a 1999 Corvet donated from a famous Mexican/American singer.

The only rule was to be present at time of drawing.

Well she won the car but the radio station lawyer told her tha t if she claim her price He will call U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement to get her deported.

The radio station is the one that organized the "famous" march of people last year.

In a separate incident this month,Toys R Us agreed to award a chinese american infant born in New York a 25,000 prize in a New Year's baby contest after the company was criticized for disqualifying the girl because her mother was (is) an illegal immigrant from china.

Do you think the radio station should give this poor woman (now she is in hiding because she is afraid), the car she won?

What do u think of this issue,no green card no car?
i hate lawyers they should mexicans should boycott that station, what city was that in?

How do i tell when a mark is used on china?

I recently bought a vegitable bowl and trying to figure out when it was made. IT has a green Royal Bayreuth mark with Germany...ANy help would be helpful

How do i tell when a mark is used on china?
Try the library, they sometimes have books on the marks manufactures use and the dates pertaining to the said marks.

You can check ebay and search for royal bayreuth under antiques, but I believe they really don't know the actual value of the pieces. You should ask collectors to find out what aera your piece is from. I am from Germany and I remember that we had some porcelain pieces from Royal Bayreuth and they were very old. Unfortunately I left them in Germany.

intricate art nouveau pattern produced by Heinrich %26amp; Co, Selb Germany, later Villeroy %26amp; Boch, pre WWII, pattern colours vary. Parbus Imperial Green is something completely different I think.
